Artist’s Statement

My work is often a reflection of the world around me, and the constant presence of technology in our lives has been a potent influence on my recent work. In my latest show, Vices and Devices, I explore the intersection of technology, self-image, and the human desire for attention.

The enhanced technology of our hand held devices has created a way to present ourselves to an audience with little effort and is now the norm. Selfies have become the ultimate expression of self-promotion. We can now curate and control our online personas to present any kind of version of ourselves; polished, distorted, or fabricated to the world.  In Vices and Devices, I use a variety of mediums to explore these themes. The figures in the work are taken from the original context they existed in. Taken mostly from magazines, the images are manipulated, deconstructed and the persona and narrative is changed through the art process.
